Pamela S. Whitten was named senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia. Dr. Whitten has been serving as dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University. She will begin her new job on February 1. She succeeds Jere W. Morehead who was provost but was promoted to president of the University of Georgia.
Dr. Whitten also will hold tenured faculty appointments in three departments at the University of Georgia: telecommunications, health policy and management, and communication studies.
Professor Whitten has been on the faculty at Michigan State University since 1998. Previously, she served on the faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Her research focuses on the field of telemedicine.
Dr. Whitten is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Kansas.
