Jennifer Barrett was named the Theodora Ayer Randolph Professor of Equine Surgery at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Dr. Barrett has been on the faculty at Virginia Tech since 2007.
Professor Barrett is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She holds two master’s degrees and a doctorate from Yale University and earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Cornell University.
Nancy K. Sweitzer was named chief of the Division of Cardiology and director of the Sarver Heart Center at the University of Arizona. She will begin her new role on March 1. She has been serving as an associate professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Dr. Sweitzer is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. in physiology and a medical doctorate from the University of Wisconsin.
Nirupama Rao has accepted a one-year appointment at the Meera and Vikram Gandhi Fellow at the Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She will begin teaching at Brown in January.
Rao recently retired after a 40-year diplomatic career. She is the former Indian ambassador to the United States.
Sara Brownell was named assistant professor in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University. She will begin teaching in the spring semester. She has been serving as a lecturer in biology at Stanford University.
Dr. Brownell is a graduate of Cornell University and earned a master’s degree from the The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. She holds a master’s degree in education and a Ph.D. in biology from Stanford University.
