Five Women in New University Administrative Positions

cooper_yolanda520Yolanda Cooper has been named University Librarian at Emory University in Atlanta. She will take on her new role beginning January 15. She has been serving as an associate professor, deputy university librarian, and acting dean and university librarian at the University of Miami in Florida. Earlier in her career he has held library posts at Indiana University, the University of Virginia, the University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Illinois.

Cooper holds a bachelor’s degree and a master of library sciences degree from Indiana University.

LorraineWilliamsLorraine Williams was appointed provost at Ashford University, based in San Diego, California. She was vice provost of curriculum development and innovation at Kaplan University in Chicago.

Dr. Williams is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree from Saint Michael’s College and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary studies from Union Institute and University.

Bowman_Luanne-255pxLuanne Bowman was named chief financial and administrative officer at the Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University in Athens. She was a project manager at Mountwest Community and Technical College in Huntington, West Virginia, and previously served for a decade as vice president for financial and administrative affairs at Rio Grande Community College in Ohio.

Bowman is a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and earned an MBA at West Virginia University.

Alejandro Amezcua PortraitAmanda Nicholson was appointed associate dean of undergraduate programs at Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University in New York. She is a professor of retail practice at the university.

Professor Nicholson holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University.

mcmahonSheila McMahon was named director of sexual assault services and prevention activities at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She previously served on the staff at the Center on Violence Against Women and Children at the Rutgers School of Social Work and was director of the Women’s Resource Center at Boston College.

McMahon is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College, where she majored in English and women’s studies. She holds a master of divinity degree from Harvard University and a master of social work degree from Rutgers University. In May 2014, she is expected to be awarded a Ph.D. in social work from Rutgers University.
