Provost at Florida Atlantic University Stepping Down to Focus on Neuroscience Research

Brenda Claiborne, provost and chief academic officer at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, is stepping down from her current post to take the position as program director for neuroscience at the John D. MacArthur Campus of Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter. The Jupiter campus of FAU includes major research facilities operated by Scripps Florida and the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience.

“I am very excited to join the team on the Jupiter campus, as well as our colleagues at Scripps and Max Planck, to build our neuroscience research and education programs,” Dr. Claiborne said. “The combined strength of the scientists at the three institutions is extremely impressive. And, while I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure as provost, this move provides the opportunity for me to resume my research on brain development and aging.”

Before joining the administration at Florida Atlantic University in 2011, Dr. Claiborne was dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of New Mexico. She also served as a professor of neuroscience at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Claiborne earned a Ph.D. in biology from the University of California at San Diego.
