Carleton College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Northfield, Minnesota, has announced the promotion of six faculty members from associate to full professor. Five of the six new full professors are women.
Stacey N. Beckwith was promoted to full professor of Hebrew. She has served as the director of the Judaic studies program at Carleton College since 2008 and as chair of the department of Middle Eastern languages since its establishment in 2010.
Dr. Beckwith is a graduate of the University of Toronto and holds a Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Minnesota.
Amy Erickson is a new full professor of physical education, athletics, and recreation. She came to Carleton in 1988 as an interim softball coach and joined the faculty later in the academic year. She in the winningest softball coach in the college’s history.
Professor Erickson is a graduate of Moorhead State University in Minnesota and holds a master’s degree in kinesiology from Michigan State University.
Gretchen E. Hofmeister was appointed full professor of chemistry. She serves as chair of the department of chemistry at the college. Before joining the faculty at Carleton College in 2002, she taught at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota.
Dr. Hofmeister is a 1985 graduate of Carleton College. She earned a Ph.D. in synthetic chemistry at the University of California at Berkeley.
Lori K. Preston was named full professor religion. She joined the faculty at the college in 2003 after teaching at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She is the chair of the Nineteenth-Century Theology Group of the American Academy of Religion.
Professor Preston is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and holds a master degree and a doctorate in theology from Harvard University.
Linda Rossi was promoted to full professor of art. She is the former head of the photography program at the University of Minnesota and taught for 15 years at the Minneapolis College of Visual Arts.
