Five Women in New Faculty Posts

8074_ Yvette Murphy-Erby Social WorkS. Yvette Murphy-Erby was promoted to professor of social work at the University of Arkansas. She also serves as the director of the School of Social Work at the university and is the first African American to hold the post.

Dr. Murphy-Erby is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds a master of social work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

boyleDiane Kay Boyle was appointed to the Wyoming Excellence Chair at the Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing at the University of Wyoming. She was an associate professor of nursing at the University of Kansas.

Professor Boyle is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Kansas.

KnowlesjoJo Knowles, the award-winning author of young adult novels, has joined the faculty of the master of fine arts in fiction and nonfiction program at the University of Southern New Hampshire.

Knowles, who has written five novels for young adults, is a graduate of Simmons College and holds a master’s degree from the college’s Center for the Study of Children’s Literature.

marshallturmanEboni Marshall Turman was named research professor and director of the Office of Black Church Studies at Duke Divinity School. She is the former assistant minister of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York City and has taught at the Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina, and the Union Theological Seminary in New York City.

A graduate of Fordham University, Dr. Marshall Turman holds a master of divinity degree, a master’s degree in African American religion and social ethics and a Ph.D. in social ethics from Union Theological Seminary.

NGutgoldNichola D. Gitgold was promoted to full professor of communication arts and sciences and associate dean of the Schreyer Honors College of Pennsylvania State University. She was coordinator of the corporate communication degree program at the Lehigh Valley campus of Penn State. She is the author of several books including The Rhetoric of Supreme Court Women: From Obstacles to Options (Lexington Books, 2012) and is the co-author of Gender and the American Presidency: Nine Presidential Women and the Barriers They Faced (Lexington Books, 2012).

Professor Gitgold is a graduate of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in speech communication from Penn State.
