A Quartet of New Women Deans at State Universities

McIntyreEllenEllen McIntyre was named dean of the College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her appointment is effective July 1. She has been serving as interim associate dean of academic affairs at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Previously, she served as a professor in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisville.

Dr. McIntyre holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Kentucky University and a doctorate from the University of Cincinnati.

lindquist_stefanieStefanie A. Lindquist was appointed dean of the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia. Her appointment is effective on August 1. She holds the Charles Alan Wright Chair in Federal Courts and serves as associate dean for external affairs at the University of Texas School of Law. She previously taught at Vanderbilt University and the University of Georgia.

Dr. Lindquist is a graduate of Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, and the Temple University School of Law, where she was editor in chief of the Temple Law Review. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina. Professor Lindquist is the co-author of Measuring Judicial Activism (Oxford University Press, 2009 and Judging on a Collegial Court: Influences on Appellate Court Decision Making (University of Virginia Press, 2006).

danitabrownDanita Brown was named vice provost for student affairs and dean of students at the University of Minnesota. She has been serving as the dean of students at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She will assume her new post on July 31.

Dr. Brown is a graduate of Kent State University in Ohio, where she majored in sociology. She holds a master’s degree in counseling from Loyola University of Chicago and a doctorate from Ohio University in Athens.

torresVasti Torres was appointed dean of the College of Education at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She has been serving as a professor of educational leadership and policy studies at Indiana University. There, she was also the director of the Center for Postsecondary Research.

A graduate of Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, Professor Torres earned a doctorate in counseling and student affairs administration from the University of Georgia.
