A New Provost at Idaho State University

woodworthnyelauraLaura Woodworth-Ney was promoted to provost and vice president for academic affairs at Idaho State University in Pocatello. For the past three years, she has served as associate vice president for academic affairs. She is the former chair of the history department at the university and was co-director of the women’s studies program. She has served on the faculty at Idaho State since 1999.

Arthur C. Vailas, president of Idaho State University, said, “In addition to being a scholar of history and the humanities, Dr. Woodworth-Ney has excellent credentials as an administrator. Her experience working as an administrator at a broader level throughout the state and region in the areas of curricular effectiveness, program development and sustainability, and academic partnerships will be especially valuable as ISU continues to grow and meet the needs of its students and the state.”

Dr. Woodworth-Ney is a graduate of the University of Idaho, where she majored in English. She holds a Ph.D. in American history from the University of Washington. She is the author of Mapping Identity: The Creation of the Couer D’Alene Indian Reservation, 1805-1902 (University Press of Colorado, 2004) and Women in the American West (ABC-CLIO, 2008).
