College of Saint Elizabeth Chooses Its First Lay Leader

streubertIn its 114-year history, the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown University has had only six presidents. All have been nuns including Sister Francis Raftery who has led the women’s college for the past 16 years.

Now the college has announced that is next president will be Helen J. Streubert. When Dr. Streubert takes the helm on June 30, she will be the first lay leader of the college. Currently Dr. Streubert is vice president for academic affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to taking this position in 2008, Dr. Streubert was the associate vice president for academic affairs at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania. She served on the staff at Misericordia for 16 years.

Dr. Streubert is the co-author of Qualitative Research in Nursing: Advancing the Humanistic Imperative (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins), now in its fifth edition.

Dr. Streubert is a graduate of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from Villanova University in Pennsylvania and a doctorate in nursing education from Teachers College at Columbia University.
