The University of Maine in Orono has announced promotions or the granting of tenure to 22 faculty members. Among these appointments are the promotion of four women to the rank of full professor.
Nory Jones was named professor of management information systems in the College of Business, Public Policy, and Health. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri.
Karen J. Horton was promoted to professor of mechanical engineering technology. She joined the faculty at the University of Maine in 1997. Professor Horton is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta and holds a second bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Arizona State University. She earned a master’s degree in industrial mathematics from the University of Kaiserlauten in Germany.
Margaret Lukens was appointed professor of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Dr. Lukens is a graduate of Harvard University and earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English at the University of Colorado.
Jasmine Saros was promoted to professor of paleoecology in the College of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Agriculture. She is also the director of the Climate Change Institute at the university. Professor Saros earned a Ph.D. at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
