Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
The Women in Trades program at Stephens College, a liberal arts college for women in Columbia, Missouri, received a grant from the Emery Sapp & Sons Foundation. The program supports local Douglass High School students by providing apprenticeship opportunities through hands-on training, industry exposure, and career readiness experiences in trade fields and heavy highway construction.
Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, was awarded a $47,113 Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education grant from the Council of Independent Colleges to support women exploring leadership roles in Christian churches. The grant will provide two years of funding for initiatives that include a mentorship program for women students interested in ministry careers and an annual conference on the topic.
A team of faculty members at Binghamton University in New York received a grant from the Breast Cancer Coalition to advance care for breast cancer survivors. The research team will develop a 3D-bioprinted model that uses triple-negative breast cancer cells. Once created, the model will be used to investigate a new peptide-based checkpoint inhibitor to improve immunotherapy.
