Gwyn Norris Scott, a longtime administrator at Ohio University, passed away on May 4. She was 64 years old.
A native of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Scott had a successful career in the culinary arts for 48 years, including more than three decades in auxiliary operations at Ohio University. She ultimately served as associate vice president for auxiliaries, leading a team of more than 260 employees and overseeing essential campus services. Scott was also involved in several university-wide groups and committees. She retired in 2024 after 34 years of service.
“Gwyn was an exceptional and inspiring leader who led with vision, integrity, heart and grace — encouraging creativity, igniting purpose, and always seeing potential in others before they saw it themselves,” said Jneanne Hacker, executive director of housing and residence life at Ohio University. “I was fortunate to have her as my first supervisor 30 years ago and later as a mentor and friend; her legacy will endure, and she will be deeply missed.”
In honor of her outstanding leadership and mentorship, Ohio University’s division of student affairs has renamed its workplace excellence student award to the Gwyn Scott Excellence in the Workplace Award.
