Anne D’Alleva Appointed President of Binghamton University in New York

Anne D’Alleva has been named the eighth president of Binghamton University. Her presidency is slated to begin on November 1.

A member of the State University of New York system, Binghamton University enrolls over 14,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 graduate students. Women represent 53 percent of the undergraduate student population.

Dr. D’Alleva comes to Binghamton from the University of Connecticut, where she has been serving as the first woman provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. She has been a faculty member at the University of Connecticut since 1999, teaching courses in both art history, as well as women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Before her provost appointment, she was dean of the School of Fine Arts.

“I am deeply honored to accept the position of president of Binghamton University and to join the distinguished SUNY system,” said Dr. D’Alleva. “Binghamton has a remarkable tradition of academic excellence, research innovation and community engagement, and I am inspired by the dedication of its faculty, staff, and students. I look forward to working collaboratively with campus and community partners to build research strength, expand opportunities for students, enhance alumni involvement, and advance the university’s impact in New York, the nation, and the world.”

A three-time Ivy League graduate, Dr. D’Alleva earned her bachelor’s degree in art history from Harvard University and her master’s degree and Ph.D. in art history from Columbia University.

Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
