Boni Elewski Receives Gold Medal Award from the American Academy of Dermatology

Boni Elewski, professor and chair of the department of dermatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been honored with the 2025 Gold Medal Award from the American Academy of Dermatology. Considered one of the organization’s highest distinctions, the prize recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of dermatology through their leadership, innovation, research, teaching, and patient care.

Dr. Elewski, a former president of the American Academy of Dermatology, is an international leader in fungal and psoriasis research and dermatological clinical trials. She has authored over 300 scholarly publications and led more than 80 clinical trial studies to pursue therapies for numerous dermatological conditions.

A UAB faculty member since 1999, Dr. Elewski currently holds the title of James E. Elder, MD Endowed Professor for Graduate Education. In addition to her primary appointment, she serves as a senior scientist with the university’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Earlier in her career, she taught in the medical schools at Northeastern Ohio University and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Dr. Elewski earned her medical degree from Ohio State University.
