Salem College to Convert Historic Academic and Residential Building Into a Hotel

Salem College, a women’s educational institution in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, has announced plans to renovate a historic educational building into a boutique hotel for the local community.

Constructed in 1930 and located in downtown Winston-Salem, the building served as both a living space and classroom environment for students through 2020. The space features 80,000 square feet and three separate wings located on seven acres of land. In addition to 86 new hotel rooms, the renovation will significantly update the building’s interior, creating a 250-person auditorium, several meeting rooms, and an onsite restaurant and lounge.

Leaders at Salem College believe this new project provides a unique opportunity to showcase the school’s rich history to Winston-Salem residents and guests. Proceeds from the hotel will be used to support scholarships for students and strategic investments for the institution.

The construction of the new hotel is expected to be completed within two years, with plans to open the space to the public in 2027.
