In Memoriam: Louise Little, 1935-2024

Louise Little, associate professor emerita of nutrition and dietetics at the University of Delaware, passed away on November 12. She was 89 years old.

Dr. Little’s career with the University of Delaware began in 1961 as an instructor in what is now the department of health behavior and nutrition sciences in the College of Health Sciences. She was promoted to assistant professor in 1964 and associate professor in 1972. She was a leader in her department, serving in roles such as area coordinator, acting department chair, assistant chair for undergraduate studies, and director of the ADA Didactic Program in Dietetics. In 1995, she served as director of the university’s semester abroad program in London. She retired from the university with emerita status in 1996.

As a scholar, Dr. Little was an active participant in several professional organizations. She had stints as president and chair of state government relations for the Delaware Dietetic Association. In 1988, she received a Kellogg Policy Fellowship from the American Society of Allied Health Professions. The fellowship brought her to Washington, D.C., where she spent one year advising legislators on policies related to health education and the delivery of health services.

Dr. Little received her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Oneonta, her master’s degree from Cornell University, and her doctorate in food and nutrition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
