In Memoriam: Ann Gill

Ann Gill, former dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Colorado State University, passed away on October 24. She was 73 years old.

Dr. Gill began her career as a practicing attorney. She eventually transitioned to higher education and served as a faculty member with Colorado State University for over three decades. She was a professor of speech communication and a coach for the university’s forensic team. Throughout her long tenure, she held several leadership roles including chair of the department of speech communication and associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts. She was promoted to dean in 2005 and served in that capacity until her retirement in 2016.

After she retired, Dr. Gill became a full-time volunteer with the Colorado State University Alumni Association. She went on to help establish seven funds that continue to support student and faculty in areas across the university.

Dr. Gill received her bachelor’s degree in communication from what is now Western Colorado University, a master’s degree in communication from Colorado State University, a juris doctorate from the University of Colorado, and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Denver.
