Kristy Pabilonia Recognized for Contributions to Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory Medicine

Kristy Pabilonia, executive director of clinical diagnostics for the Colorado State University Veterinary Health System, has received the 2024 E. P. Pope Award from the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. Considered the association’s highest honor, the award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the organization and the veterinary diagnostic laboratory medicine field.

Dr. Pabilonia has been a faculty member with Colorado State University for over two decades. She currently teaches as a professor in the department of microbiology, immunology, and pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She was a key member in the forming of the university’s Veterinary Health System and served as its interim associate dean for one year. Her research interests include avian influenza virus, backyard poultry populations, salmonella, and a number of zoonotic diseases.

Dr. Pabilonia received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado. She holds a doctor of veterinary medicine degree and a Ph.D. from Colorado State University.
