Ruby Perry Receives Lifetime Achievement Award From the American Veterinary Medical Association

Ruby Perry, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University in Alabama, has received the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

A full professor of veterinary radiology, Dr. Perry has the distinct honor of being the first-ever African American woman board-certified veterinary radiologist. Her career in higher education began in 1982 as an assistant professor of veterinary radiology at Tuskegee University, where she was soon appointed acting chair of the department of small animal medicine, surgery, and radiology. In 1995, she transitioned to Michigan State University, where she taught for nearly two decades before returning to the Tuskegee faculty. During her tenure with Michigan State University, she spent six years as chief of the diagnostic imaging section.

Dr. Perry holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Tuskegee University. She earned a master’s degree from Michigan State University.
