Sarah Ewing was named provost and vice president for student experience at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, effective July 1. Since 2017, she has been serving as dean of the Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences at the university. Dr. Ewing joined the faculty at Gannon University in 2009 as an assistant professor of biology and director of pre-health professional programs. She was named chair of the biology department in 2013.
Dr. Ewing is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University-Behrend. She earned a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from North Carolina State University.
Adrea Lawrence was appointed interim provost at the University of Montana, effective May 15. She is the dean of the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education at the university. She is an education historian who has studied American Indian histories and their corresponding education histories. Dr. Lawrencwe is the author of Lessons from an Indian Day School: Negotiating Colonization in Northern New Mexico, 1902-1907 (University Press of Kansas, 2011).
Dr. Lawrence holds a bachelor’s degree in American studies and a master’s degree in secondary social studies education from the University of Colorado Boulder. She earned a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies from Indiana University.
Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
The new presidents are Laurie A. Boeding at the Technical College of the Lowcountry and Melissa Frank-Alston at Northeastern Technical College. Both women are expected to begin their presidencies on July 1.
Dr. McEwen comes to her new appointment following four years as president and vice chancellor of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. Earlier, she served in several leadership roles at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She received some of her education in the United States.
The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.
Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
