Amy J. Goldberg, the George S. and Louise C. Peters Chair of Surgery and Temple University Health System surgeon-in-chief, has been appointed dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. She had served as interim dean for the past 18 months. Dr. Goldberg was the first woman to serve as Temple’s chair of surgery and is now the first to serve as medical school dean.
“Dr. Amy Goldberg has excelled in each role she has held at Temple, and we are enthusiastic about her visionary leadership of the Katz School of Medicine,” said Jason Wingard, president of Temple University “She is a keenly intelligent leader who sees opportunity everywhere, is motivated by what is fair, right, and best, and is committed to cross-stakeholder engagement. Both her leadership and scholarship are poised to advance Temple’s medical school to the next level.”
Dr. Goldberg is a trauma surgeon. She spent 13 years leading Temple’s trauma service. She maintained trauma on-call duty during her time as interim dean — and intends to keep her hand in going forward.

Dr. Goldberg is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her medical degree at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City,
