Kerry Heyward to Lead Clayton State University in Georgia

Kerry L. Heyward has been named interim president of Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia.

Clayton State University enrolls just under 6,400 undergraduate students and about 700 graduate students, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 71 percent of the undergraduate student body.

“I look forward to supporting Clayton State’s faculty, staff and students on their mission to make Laker Nation a force in higher education,” Heyward said. “The university’s campus community has already done so much to support student success and I can’t wait to join them on that journey.”

Heyward has been serving as university attorney for Georgia State University in Atlanta. She has been on the staff there for 20 years. Earlier, she was an associate at a private law firm specializing in transactional law, estate planning, and tax law.

Heyward earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida, where she served as president of the Student Government Association. She holds a law degree from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida.
