Katherine Zatz Appointed Acting President of the American Public University System

The American Public University System announced that Katherine Zatz, the former chair of the university’s board of trustees, has been appointed acting president.

The American Public University System, headquartered in Charlestown, West Virginia, offers more than 200 online degree and certificate programs through American Military University. The system has approximately 110,000 alumni worldwide.

From 2017 until 2020, Dr. Zatz served as the assistant dean of Petrocelli College at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Earlier, she was vice president of student development at SUNY-Rockland and dean of students at Hudson County Community College in Jersey City, New Jersey.

“APUS has built a strong foundation for making higher education affordable and accessible for military, veterans, and underserved populations, and I am confident we will continue to advance these efforts,” said Dr. Zatz. “We are highly committed to driving favorable outcomes for our students so they can be successful in the next chapters of their lives.”

Dr. Zatz is a graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she majored in political science, history, and social science. She holds master’s degrees in educational administration and student personnel administration and a doctorate in postsecondary and adult education from Teachers College at Columbia University.
