The board of trustees of the State University of New York has appointed Joanie Mahoney as president of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. She took office immediately and will earn a salary of $275,000.
The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry enrolls about 1,800 undergraduate students and 400 graduate students, according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 48 percent of the undergraduate student body.
President Mahoney joined the staff at the college in 2018 as the chief operating officer. She is the former chief executive of Onondaga County in New York. Earlier, she was both a private attorney and a criminal prosecutor for Onondaga County’s district attorney’s office.
“I am grateful to the campus for all the time and effort that went into the search process and humbled by this opportunity to work here with all of you,” President Mahoney said. “We know we have work to do, and I’m excited to get started.”
President Mahoney earned a bachelor’s degree from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. She holds a juris doctorate from the university’s College of Law.
