Four Women Faculty Members Who Were Appointed to New Posts or Given Additional Responsibilities

Jacqueline O’Connor, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Pennsylvania State University, was appointed acting director of the Center for Gas Turbine Research, Education, and Outreach at the university.

Dr. O’Connor is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she majored in aeronautics and astronautics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of technology.

Molly Carr, a renowned violist, has joined the faculty at the Bard College Conservatory of Music in Annandale-on-Hudson New York. She has served on the faculties of both the Juilliard School’s Precollege Program and the Alberto Jonas International School of Music in Valencia, Spain.

Carr holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music from the Julliard School in New York City.

Karen D. Morgan, associate professor of mathematics at New Jersey City University, was named senior vice president for academic affairs at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, effective July 1. Dr. Morgan also serves as the interim assistant provost for undergraduate experience and interim director of the Lee Hagan Africana Studies Center at New Jersey City University. She joined the faculty there in 2005.

Dr. Morgan holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and a Ph.D. in mathematics higher education, all from the University of Mississippi.

Beena Sood, a professor of pediatrics at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, was given the added duties of associate dean for professional development in Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. A member of the faculty since 2001, Dr. Sood has chaired the Women in Medicine and Science group at the School of Medicine since 2015.

Dr. Sood received her undergraduate degree from the Carmel Convent School in New Delhi, India, and her medical degree in 1985 from the Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi. She also holds a master’s degree in statistical research design and statistical analysis from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Pfluger has spent the past year as Bakersfield College's interim president. She previously served as vice chancellor of educational services and student success at the Kern Community College District.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
