Four Women Named Distinguished Professors at Pennsylvania State University

Xuemei Huang has been named a 2019 distinguished professor of neurology, pharmacology, radiology, and kinesiology in the College of Medicine. She has been a Penn State faculty member since 2008.

Dr. Huang holds a medical degree from Beijing Medical University in China.

Aylin Yener has been named a 2019 distinguished professor of electrical engineering in the College of Engineering. She has been a Penn State faculty member since 2002.

Dr. Yener holds dual bachelor’s degrees in physics and electrical and electronics engineering from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. She earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in electrical and computer engineering from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Rebecca Strzelec has been named a 2019 distinguished professor of visual arts at Penn State Altoona. She also serves as program coordinator of visual arts studies.

Professor Strzelec holds a bachelor of fine arts degree and a master of fine arts degree both in metals/jewelry/CAD-­CAM from Temple University in Philadelphia.

Veronica Montecinos has been named a 2019 distinguished professor of sociology at Penn State Greater Allegheny. She is the author of Economists, Politics and the State, Chile 1958–1994 (Purdue University Press, 1998).

Dr. Montecinos is a graduate of the Catholic University of Chile where she studied sociology. She holds a master’s degree in political science, a master’s degree in sociology, and a Ph.D in sociology all from the University of Pittsburgh.
