Kilgore College’s First Woman President Has Her Contract Extended for Five Years

The board of trustees of Kilgore College in Texas has extended the contract of President Brenda Kays for an additional five years. In the past, the college had only given its president two-year deals.

Kilgore College, located 25 miles east of Tyler, Texas, enrolls close to 5,700 students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 58 percent of the student body.

Dr. Kays was appointed as the educational institution’s ninth president in 2016. She is the first woman to serve as president in the college’s history.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Kays served as vice president for student learning and success at Guilford Technical Community College in North Carolina and as dean of instructional services and chief academic officer at Vernon College in Texas.

Dr. Kays holds a master’s degree in counseling from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and an educational doctorate from the University of North Texas in Denton.
