The University System of Maryland has announced that Heidi M. Anderson will be the sixteenth president of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. She will take office on September 1.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore enrolls about 3,300 undergraduate students and slightly more than 600 graduate students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 55 percent of the student body.
In accepting the appointment, Dr. Anderson stated that “I embrace UMES’s focus on high-quality teaching and on producing knowledgeable citizens capable of leading and competing regionally, nationally and globally. As a first-generation student, I’m particularly impressed by the university’s strong emphasis on student success.”
Since September 2017, Dr. Anderson has been special advisor to the president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville. She served as provost and vice president for academic affairs there from 2015 to 2017. From 2013 to 2015, Dr. Anderson was provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. Previously, she was vice president for institutional effectiveness at the University of Kentucky. She served as a faculty member and an administrator at the University of Kentucky for 11 years.
A native of Gary, Indiana, Dr. Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, a master’s degree in education, and a Ph.D. in pharmacy administration, all from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
