The board of trustees of Delaware State University has named Wilma Mishoe as the educational institution’s eleventh president. Dr. Mishoe has been serving in the post on an interim basis since January. Previously, she was chair of the university’s board of trustees. She was the first woman to chair the board of trustees at Delaware State in the university’s history.
Delaware State University enrolls about 4,000 undergraduate students and slightly more than 300 graduate students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 64 percent of the undergraduate student body.
Dr. Mishoe is the former dean of the Office of Instruction at Delaware Technical & Community College. In 2014, as a sitting member of the board of trustees of Wilberforce University in Ohio, she was asked to serve as acting president.
Dr. Mishoe’s father, Luna Mishoe, was the president of what is now Delaware State University from 1960 to 1987.
