
Before joining the staff at PEOPLE, DeWalt taught educational policy, women’s studies, and African American studies. After serving for 10 years at director of PEOPLE, in 2015, DeWalt was promoted to director of external relations, partnership and development in the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational Achievement. She retired with emerita status earlier this year.
A native of Milwaukee, DeWalt earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in cultural anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
