Michelle Howard-Vital Named to Lead Florida Memorial University

Michelle Howard-VitalMichelle Howard-Vital was named interim president of at Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens. In 2016, Dr. Howard-Vital was chosen to serve as executive vice president and provost at the university. From 2007 to 2014, Dr. Howard-Vital was president of Cheyney University in Pennsylvania. After stepping down as president of Cheyney University, she did independent consulting work and was a senior fellow of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Howard-Vital served as interim chancellor of Winston-Salem State University and as associate vice president for the University of North Carolina System. From 1993 to 2003, she served as vice chancellor and associate provost at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

President Howard-Vital holds bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in public policy analysis from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
