A Quartet of New Deans at Top Universities in the United States

Lisa K. Nolan was appointed dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia, effective July 1. Currently, she is a professor and the Dr. Stephen G. Juelsgaard Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. She has held this post since 2011.

Dr. Nolan is a graduate of Valdosta State University, where she majored in biology. She holds a doctorate in veterinary medicine, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in medical microbiology from the University of Georgia.

Jennifer Widom was chosen as the next dean of the School of Engineering at Stanford University in California. She has been a member of the computer science and electrical engineering faculty at Stanford for nearly a quarter century and is the Fletcher Jones Professor in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. She has served as senior associate dean and chair of the computer science department.

Dr. Widom is a graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. She earned a Ph.D. in computer science at Cornell University.

Lynn Perry Wooten has been selected to serve as the David J. Nolan Dean of the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University. She will take office on July 1. Currently, she is senior associate dean for academic and student excellence at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Wooten is graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, where she majored in accounting. She earned an MBA at Duke University and a doctorate in business administration from the University of Michigan.

Michelle Addington will be the next dean of the School of Architecture at University of Texas at Austin. She will also hold the Henry M. Rockwell Chair in Architecture at the university. Professor Addington will join the faculty on July 1. Since 2010, she has served as the Hines Professor of Sustainable Architectural Design at the Yale School of Architecture.

Dr. Addington holds undergraduate degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans and Temple University in Philadelphia. She earned master’s and doctoral degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
