Spelman College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in Atlanta where the vast majority of the students are African Americans, has announced that it will convene a task force that will make recommendations on whether the college should admit transgender students.
The college issued a statement which read in part: “In keeping with our intention to be a leader in Title IX practices, Spelman is convening a task force that will make recommendations to the president on the admission and enrollment of transgender students. we anticipate a report by the end of the academic year.”
Many of the nation’s leading women’s colleges have changed their admissions policies in recent years to allow for the admission of all individuals who self-identify as women.
