Florida State University Offering New MOOC for Social Workers on Domestic Violence

FSU_Seal3DgoldFlorida State University has announced that it is offering its first massive open online course (MOOC). The university’s first MOOC is entitled “Understanding Domestic Violence as a Social Service Professional.” The course aims to educate social service professionals and the public on the dynamics of domestic violence.

Social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors in Florida can earn continuing education credits by completing the free online course.

oehmeKaren Oehme, director of the Institute for Family Violence Studies at Florida State, said that “by exposing the myths surrounding domestic violence and describing the dynamics and patterns of this issue, the course will empower social service professionals to give victims the support they need.”

Oehme is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, where she majored in communication. She earned a law degree at Florida State University.
