The New Provost at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington

Marilyn Sheerer is the new provost of UNC WilmingtonMarilyn Sheerer is the new provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. The Wilmington campus enrolls nearly 13,000 undergraduate students and more than 1,600 graduate students. Women make up 61 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Sheerer has served as interim provost since June 2015. From 2007 to 2014, Dr. Sheerer was provost at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. There, she also served as dean of the College of Education. Earlier in her career, Dr. Sheerer was on the faculty at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and Northern Illinois University.

Dr. Sheerer is a graduate of Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree from Syracuse University in New York and a Ph.D. from Ohio University.
