The First Woman President of Kilgore College in Texas

The board of trustees of Kilgore College in Texas has chosen Brenda Kays as the educational institution’s ninth president. When she takes office on February 1, she will become the first president in the college’s history.

Kilgore College is a two-year institution located in East Texas with enrollments of about 5,800 students. Women make up 60 percent of the student body.

Dr. Kays has served as vice president for student learning and success at Guilford Technical Community College in North Carolina and as dean of instructional services and chief academic officer at Vernon College in Texas.

Dr. Kays holds a master’s degree in counseling from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and an educational doctorate from the University of North Texas in Denton.

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
