Barnard College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in New York City, has announced that there are eight new faculty members on campus this fall. Six of the new hires are women.
Belinda Archibong is a new assistant professor of economics. She is teaching courses on the theoretical foundations of political economy and the logics and limits of economic justice. Dr. Archibong completed her Ph.D. in sustainable development at Columbia University earlier this year. She also holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Columbia University.
Rachel N. Austin was named the Diana T. and P. Roy Vagelos Professor of Chemistry. She had served on the faculty at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, for the past two decades. Professor Austin is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and earned a Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Gale Kenny was appointed an assistant professor of religion. She has been an adjunct professor at Barnard since 2010. Dr. Kenny is the author of Contentious Liberties: American Abolitionists in Post-Emancipation Jamaica, 1834-1866 (University of Georgia Press, 2010). Dr. Kenny is a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and holds a Ph.D. from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
Mignon R. Moore is a new associate professor of sociology. She was an associate professor of sociology and African American studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. She taught at UCLA for nine years. Dr. Moore is the author of Invisible Families: Gay Identities, Relationships, and Motherhood Among Black Women (University of California Press, 2011). Dr. Moore is a graduate of Columbia University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago.
Angela Tolonen is a new assistant professor of economics. She has served as a visiting researcher at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Oxford in England. Dr. Tolonen has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.
Christina Vizcarra was appointed an assistant professor of chemistry. She had been serving as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Vizcarra’s research focuses on physical biochemistry. She is a graduate of the University of Kansas and holds a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Richtermeyer has spent the past three years as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Rutgers University-Camden
Cheryl Norman was appointed president of Ridgewater College in Minnesota and Ellen Kennedy was named interim president of Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
