Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
The University of Alabama Birmingham received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to conduct a clinical trial evaluating the safety and acceptibility of vaginal ring containing an antiretroviral drug for preventing the transmission of HIV. The trail will focus on girls ages 15 to 17.
The University of Central Florida in Orlando received a $250,000 grant from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The grant will fund the research of Annette Khaled, an associate professor in the university College of Medicine, that aims to develop new technologies to treat metastatic cancer cells. Dr. Khaled earned a master’s degree in microbiology from California State University, Long Beach and a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and microbiology from the University of Florida College of Medicine.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Richtermeyer has spent the past three years as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Rutgers University-Camden
Cheryl Norman was appointed president of Ridgewater College in Minnesota and Ellen Kennedy was named interim president of Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
