New Provosts at Three High-Ranking Colleges and Universities

marie-lynn-mirandaMarie Lynn Miranda was appointed provost at Rice University in Houston, effective July 1. Currently, she serves as the Samuel A. Graham Dean of the School of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of Michigan. Before joining the staff at the University of Michigan, Dr. Miranda was a faculty member at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, for 21 years.

A native of Detroit, Dr. Miranda is a graduate of Duke University, where she double majored in mathematics and economics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.

susan_baldridgeSusan C. Baldridge is the new provost at Middlebury College in Vermont. She is a professor of psychology at the college and perviously served as dean of the faculty and vice president for strategy and planning. Dr. Baldridge has served on the faculty at Middlebury College for more than 20 years and will continue to teach psychology.

Dr. Baldridge is a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She earned a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

BarbaraAltmannBarbara K. Altmann was named provost at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She currently serves as senior vice provost for academic affairs at the University of Oregon. She is also a professor of French ans served for three years as chair of the department of romance languages. From 2008 to 2013, Dr. Altmann was the director of the Oregon Humanities Center.

Dr. Altmann is a graduate of the University of Alberta. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in medieval French language and literature from the University of Toronto.
