New Administrative Posts in Higher Education for Nine Women

gibbonsSusan Gibbons, University Librarian at Yale University, has been promoted to deputy provost for libraries and scholarly communications. In her new role, she will be in charge of the Yale University Press.

Dr. Gibbons joined the staff at Yale in 2011. Previously, she was vice provost and dean of the River Campus Libraries at the University of Rochester. Dr. Gibbons is a graduate of the University of Delaware, where she majored in history. She holds a master of library science degree from Indiana University, an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, and an educational doctorate from the University of Rochester.

Mary-E.-ColemanMary E. Coleman was named interim vice president for finance and administration at Guttman Community College in New York City. She has served for 17 years as the vice president for finance and administration at Bronx Community College.

Coleman is a summa cum laude graduate of Jackson State University in Mississippi. She holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.

MarshallCourtney M. Marshall was named president and CEO of the Wichita State University Alumni Association. She was a major gifts development officer for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. She has held fundraising posts at Texas Tech University, Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, and the University of South Dakota.

Marshall is a graduate of Kansas State University, where she majored in journalism.

Dr CostonYvonne Moore Coston was promoted to provost and vice president of academic affairs at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was serving as vice president for research and innovation. Dr. Coston has served as a professor of mathematics, dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Education, and acting dean of the School of Sciences, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Dr. Coston is a graduate of Fayetteville State University in North Carolina, where she majored in mathematics. She holds master’s degrees in statistics and mathematics education and a doctorate in mathematics education from North Carolina State University.

lindsay-allenLindsay Allen was appointed director of alumni and friends engagement at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was director of annual giving, marketing, and participation at the Boston College Law School.

Earlier in her career, Allen was director of alumni relations at her alma mater, the University of Utah.

jowersSandra Jowers was named director of the Humanities Division at the University of the District of Columbia Community College. Since 2006, she has been an assistant professor of history at the university.

Dr. Jowers holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism, a master’s degree in history, and a Ph.D. in U.S. history, all from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Martha_sutterMartha Sutter was named interim director of the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University. She has been a member of the faculty at the school since 1986 and has served as assistant dean of undergraduate students for the College of Visual and Performing Arts since 2000.

Sutter is a graduate of the State University of New York at Potsdam, where she majored in music education. She holds a master’s degree in vocal performance from Syracuse University.

RuthCainRuth Cain was appointed director of assessment for the University of Missouri-Kansas City. For the past five years, she has been serving as the assessment and accreditation coordinator at Indiana State University.

Dr. Cain holds a master’s degree in theatre design and technology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She earned a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Kansas.

penniecookTricia Penniecook was named vice president for academic administration at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama. She is currently serving as dean of the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University in California. Her new appointment is effective on July 1.

Before becoming dean in 2010, Dr. Penniecook was associate dean for academic affairs and professor at the School of Public Health at Loma Linda University. Earlier, she was the coordinator of the School of Public Health at Universidad de Montemorelos in Mexico.
