The board of trustees of Princeton University in New Jersey has approved the appointments of 19 new assistant professors. Of the 19 new assistant professors, some of whom will not teach until the fall 2015 semester, 10 are women.

Nozomi Ando is a new assistant professor of chemistry. Since 2009, she has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Ando is a graduate of MIT and earned a Ph.D. at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
He Bian was appointed an assistant professor of East Asian studies. Her research focuses on late imperial and early modern China. Dr. Bian is a graduate of Peking University in China. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. at Harvard University.
Karen Emmerich will join the Princeton faculty for the spring semester as an assistant professor of comparative literature. Since 2012, she has been an assistant professor at the University of Oregon. Dr. Emmerich is a graduate of Princeton University. She earned a master’s degree at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York City.
Barbara Engelhardt is a new assistant professor of computer science. She was an assistant professor at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Engelhardt holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago.
Maryam Farboodi will join the faculty at Princeton in the fall of 2015 as an assistant professor of economics. She is a graduate of the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. Dr. Farboodi earned master’s degrees at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Maryland at College Park. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
Margaret Frye was hired as an assistant professor of sociology. She will begin teaching at Princeton in the fall of 2015. Dr. Frye is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. Dr. Frye is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
Satyel Larson was named assistant professor of Near Eastern studies. She will begin teaching at Princeton next fall. Since 2012, she has been a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on women and gender studies in the Middle East. Dr. Larson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.
Carolina Mangone was appointed assistant professor of art and archaeology, effective for the Fall 2015 semester. Since 2013, she has been a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University. Her research is focused on early modern European art history. Dr. Mangone is a graduate of the University of Calgary and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.
Carolyn McBride is a new assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. Since 2008, she has been conducting postdoctoral research at Rockefeller University. Her research is focused on genetics and neurobiology. Dr. McBride is a graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.
Christina Riehl was hired as an assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. She will begin teaching at Princeton next fall. She currently serves as a Junior Fellow at Harvard University and previously was a postdoctoral fellow at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute. Dr. Riehl is a graduate of Harvard University and earned a Ph.D. at Princeton University.
