Louisiana State University Professor Wins a National Award for Her Book on the History of Black Journalists

BroussardJinx Coleman Broussard, a professor in the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, received the History Division Book Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. The award recognizes the best book on journalism or mass communication history published in the last year.

Professor Broussard was honored for her book African American Foreign Correspondents: A History (Louisiana State University Press, 2013). She received the award at the AEJMC annual convention in Montreal.

Dr. Broussard is also the author of Giving a Voice to the Voiceless: Four Pioneering Black Women Journalists (Routledge, 2003). Before joining the faculty at Louisiana State University, she taught at Dillard University in New Orleans and was press secretary for the mayor of New Orleans.

Professor Broussard holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Southern Mississippi.
