This Week’s Roundup of Appointments of Women to Key Administrative Posts in Higher Education

Shirley M. Collado was appointed executive vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and executive vice provost at Rutgers University Newark. She will also serve on the faculty of the sociology department at the university. Currently, Dr. Collado is dean of the college at Middlebury College in Vermont. She will begin her new duties at Rutgers in January.

Dr. Collado is the former executive vice president of The Posse Foundation. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Duke University.

shannon-mcgee_releaseShannon McGee was promoted to director of auxiliary services at Valdosta State University in Georgia. Since 2007, she has been the associate director of auxiliary services. She has been on the staff at the university since 1997.

McGee holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master of public administration degree, both from Valdosta State University.

byrd-jacobs-Christine Byrd-Jacobs was appointed associate dean of the Graduate College at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. She has been on the university’s faculty since 1996 and currently serves as a professor of biological sciences.

Dr. Byrd-Jacobs is a graduate of Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She earned a Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Arizona.

LynnBabingtonLynn Babington was promoted to senior vice president for academic affairs at Fairfield University in Connecticut. Since 2012, she has been dean of the School of Nursing and professor of nursing at the university. She previously held faculty and administrative posts at the School of Nursing at Northeastern University in Boston.

Dr. Babington is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.

Mary_Berry1Mary Berry was named interim vice president of research at the University of South Dakota. Dr. Berry has been a member of the faculty at the university since 1990 and has served as a full professor of chemistry since 2001.

Professor Berry is a graduate of the College of Charleston in South Carolina. She holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Virginia.

SuskiKatherine Johnson Suski was appointed director of admissions at Iowa State University in Ames. She has been serving as director of admissions at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She will begin her new role on July 8.

Suski holds a bachelor’s degree in radio and television and a master of public administration degree from Southern Illinois University.

gavostoEstela Gavosto, associate professor of mathematics at the University of Kansas, was named executive director of the Multicultural Scholars Program at the university. She also serves as associate director of the Office for Diversity in Science Training at the university.

Dr. Gavosto is a graduate of the National University of Rosario in Argentina. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr.-Beverly-L.-Downing-3Beverly L. Downing was appointed interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. She has been serving as associate provost for undergraduate education and assistant vice president for academic affairs since last August.

Dr. Downing is a graduate of Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. She holds a master’s degree in education from Hampton University in Virginia and a doctorate in pedagogy from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro.

Rachel_Reuben_HeadshotRachel Reuben was named vice president for communications at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. She was associate vice president for marketing communications at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

Reuben holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and organizational communication and an MBA from the State University of New York at New Paltz.

cario_headshot_squareA. Madison Cario was appointed director of the Office of the Arts at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. She was director of student engagement at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Cario is a summa cum laude graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, where she majored in rhetoric and communication. She holds a master’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Pennsylvania.

goldenMarthe Druska Golden was named vice president for alumni relations at Rice University in Houston. She has been serving as director of student and employer services and of communications and outreach at the University of Chicago. She has been on the staff at the University of Chicago since 2005.

Golden is a graduate of Fordham University in The Bronx, New York, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in liberal arts from the University of Chicago.

kimwashorKimberly Washor is the inaugural director of the Center for Career and Experiential Education at the University of Rhode Island. Previously, she was director of experiential education and community engagement at the university. Washor has been on the staff at the university since 1996.

Washor earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Rhode Island.

Susan Goodin was appointed executive officer of the Big Ten Cancer Research Consortium. She is executive director of statewide affairs at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and a professor of medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers. She has been with the Rutgers Cancer Institute since 1993.

Dr. Goodin holds a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Kentucky.
