Ruth G. McRoy, the Donahue and DiFelice Professor of Social Work at Boston College, has been selected to receive the Child Advocate of the Year Award from the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC). Dr. McRoy, a former president of the NACAC, will be honored at the group’s 40th annual meeting in Kansas City this July.
Dr. McRoy has been on the faculty at Boston College since 2009. Prior to joining the Boston College faculty, Dr. McRoy was a member of the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work faculty for 25 years and held the Ruby Lee Piester Centennial Professorship.
Dr. McRoy is the co-author or co-editor of Openness in Adoption: Family Connections (Sage, 1998), Challenging Racial Disproportionality in Child Welfare (Child Welfare League of America, 2011), and Building Research Culture and Infrastructure (Oxford University Press, 2012).
Professor McRoy holds a bachelor’s degree and a master of social work degree from the University of Kansas. She earned a Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin.
