Sheri Noren Everts Named Chancellor at Appalachian State University in North Carolina

chancellor_elect_sheri_noren_everts_02bSheri Noren Everts has been named as the next chancellor of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. The university enrolls more than 15,000 undergraduate students and nearly 2,000 graduate students. Women make up 53 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Everts currently serves as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Illinois State University. She has served in these posts since 2008. She will become chancellor at Appalachian State University on July 1.

Dr. Everts is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where she majored in English instruction and secondary education. After teaching at middle schools and high schools in Kansas and Nebraska, she returned to the University of Nebraska to earn a master’s degree and a doctorate in administration, curriculum, and instruction. After earning her doctorate in 1994, Dr. Everts joined the faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She was named assistant vice chancellor for academic and student affairs in 2000 and remained in the administration at the university until accepting the job of provost at Illinois State.
