West Virginia University has announced four finalists for the position of dean of libraries. The candidates will all be visiting the Morgantown campus over the next few days for interviews and public forums. Two of the four finalists are women.
Jennifer Fabbi is associate dean of libraries at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Her current research focuses on the information literacy of first-year college students.
Dr. Fabbi holds a master of library science degree from the University of Arizona and earned a doctorate in higher education leadership from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
Janice Welburn is dean of University Libraries at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She has held this post since 2006. Previously, she was the associate dean of libraries at the University of Arizona.
Welburn is a graduate of Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, an institution which closed in 1988. She holds a master’s degree in American history and a master’s degree in library and information science from what is now Clark Atlanta University.
"I have seen firsthand the difference technical education can make for our students, their families, and the businesses and industries that depend on a skilled workforce," said Amanda Foreman, the new interim president of Coastal Pines Technical College in Georgia.
Sara M. Butler is vice chancellor for academic affairs at Honolulu Community College in Hawaii and Jennifer L. Cumpston is vice president for academic affairs at Trident Technical College in Charleston, South Carolina
Dr. Farmer is the first Black woman to chair the board of directors of the American Dental Education Association. With more than three decades of experience in dental practice and education, she currently serves as dean of the School of Dentistry at Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
Dr. Hrycyna has served as dean of UC San Diego's School of Physical Sciences for the past three years. She is slated to become the university's next executive vice chancellor for academic affairs on January 1.
