University of Florida Scholar Elected President of IUAES

Professors Elizabeth Graham (r) and Faye HarrisonFaye V. Harrison, professor of anthropology and professor of African American studies at the University of Florida, has been elected president of the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences. She will serve a five-year term ending in 2018.

Dr. Harrison is a sociocultural anthropologist who specializes in the study of racial, gender, and class inequalities and the politics that emerge in response to them. She is a past president of the Association of Black Anthropologists. Professor Harrison is the author of Outsider Within: Reworking Anthropology in the Global Age (University of Illinois Press, 2008).

Dr. Harrison is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in anthropology from Stanford University in California.
