A.M. Homes, a lecturer in the creative writing program at Princeton University, was named the winner of Women’s Prize for Fiction, formerly known as the Orange Prize. In the future the award will be known as the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction as it will be sponsored by the Irish liqueur producer. Homes is the fifth American in a row to win the prize, which comes with a cash award of £30,000.
Homes was honored for her novel May We Be Forgiven (Viking Penguin, 2012), a dark comedy about domestic life in the 21st century that includes a car crash, adultery, and murder all in its first few pages.
Homes is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Iowa. She is the author of 11 book including This Book May Save Your Life (Viking, 2006) and The Mistress’s Daughter (Viking, 2007). She also writes for television.
