This Week’s News on Women Faculty

Sharma_PoonamPoonam Sharma was appointed interim chair of the department of pathology at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. She has been serving as an associate professor and vice chair of the department. She is also the vice chair of the medical school’s Women in Medicine and Science group.

Dr. Sharma is a graduate of the Lady Hardinge Medical College of the University of Delhi in India.

Christine Sylvester has joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut with joint appointments in the departments of political science and women’s studies. She was professor of international relations and development at Lancaster University in Britain and professor of women, gender, and development at the Institute of Social Studies in the Netherlands.

Professor Sylvester is the author of War as Experience: Contributions From International Relations and Feminist Analysis (Routledge, 2011) and Art/Museums: International Relations Where We Least Expect It (Paradigm Publishers, 2009).

kilgo_storyJennifer L. Kilgo has been promoted to University Professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Kilgo has been on the UAB faculty since 1995.

Professor Kilgo is the co-author of An Introduction to Young Children with Special Needs: Birth Through Age Eight, now in its fourth edition. She is the past president of Division for Early Childhood of the Council for Exceptional Children.

juliececereJulie Cecere was hired as a clinical assistant professor of theriogenology at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. Theriogenology is a branch of veterinary medicine concerned with animal reproduction and obstetrics. She was a resident in small animal and equine reproduction at the college.

Dr. Cecere is a graduate of Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia, and earned her doctorate at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.

naegeleJanice Naegele, professor of biology and professor of neuroscience and behavior at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, was named director of the university’s Center for Faculty and Career Development.

Professor Naegele is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, and earned a Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The First Woman President of Schenectady County Community College in New York

Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
