Following the dismissal of Alan L. Sessoms last week, the board of trustees of the University of the District of Columbia has named Rachel Petty as the interim chief operating officer of the institution. Dr. Petty will serve as interim chief operating officer until an interim president is named sometime in January. The interim president may serve up to a year or more until a permanent replacement for Dr. Sessoms is found.
Dr. Petty is a professor of psychology at the University of the District of Columbia with 34 years of experience in higher education. She has served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, provost, and chair of the department of psychology and counseling.
